Fact # 9) Are We Mice or Men?

 

A little bit of both, it seems.

There are striking similarities in the arrangements of genes between human and mouse chromosomes.

Some of these similarities are apparent from this depiction of human chromosomes, color-coded by the mouse chromosome in which corresponding gene sequences are found.

As you can see, most human chromosomes have long segments in which genes are laid out in an order that matches similar genes in themouse sequence.
